Ceilidh Plus: dance to live music from Scotland + Cyprus + Catalonia

Come, dance, get involved in a community ceilidh with a difference. Join us for an evening of social dancing to live music from Scotland + Cyprus + Catalonia! You are welcome to attend, dance or watch along. Trust our experienced dance practitioners to show you the steps. A perfect night out for curious beginners and seasoned dancers alike.

Plus, celebrate Catalonia's National Day (11 September), Glasgow Doors Open Days (1720 September) and the European Folk Day (23 September). Don't miss your chance to learn traditional dances from across Europe on the same night. Share the joy through movement and music, be it Scottish Ceilidh, Catalan or Cypriot traditional dance, including Polca Castellera - a Catalan dance which often marks the end of a castells performance (human towers). You may have experienced it with team Colla Castellera d'Edinburgh [https://www.collacastelleraedinburgh.com]who have being building castells in Scotland since 2015. Plus, Catalan castells and the music that goes with them were officially inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2010. Boom!

Keep an eye as we announce our hand-picked cracking band of Scottish dance callers and musicians, all with local, Cypriot and Catalan heritage, including Marina Sharp, Sotirios Panagoulias, Laia Puig i Espar, Elisabet Vives Requena and Cristina Maireles i Casacuberta! Plus, expect a pop-up food bar by Scotland's Catalan Centre [https://www.centrecatalaescocia.org.uk], including Catalan beer! Also, remember to pack your refillable water bottles to stay hydrated while dancing the night away!

This Ceilidh Plus is brought to you by the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland [http://www.tdfs.org]through the hospitality of Jordanhill Parish Church [https://www.jordanhillparishchurch.org.uk] and our first-time partnership with the Scotland's Catalan Centre [https://www.centrecatalaescocia.org.uk]. "We believe that the tradition bearers of Scottish Ceilidh would be delighted to share the stage and the dance floor with the traditions of the other cultures that have become an integral part of contemporary Scotland. Although there are regular and popular Ceilidh nights across the countrys village halls and cultural centres, there are hardly any events that provide space for the folk fusion of Scottish Ceilidh with other world trad dances. Launched in 2024, our Ceilidh Plus series has been changing this, laying the common ground for a new tradition." Iliyana Nedkova and Wendy Timmons, Curator and Chair of the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland
