Ceòl is Craic: Mwsog and Evie Waddell
MWSOG are a seven-piece Welsh collective reimagining traditional folk
through psychedelia, 1970s acid folk and experimental rock. Led by the
commanding voice of Mari Mathias, their hypnotic, ritualistic sound combines
Driving rhythms, rich harmonies and ancient storytelling, exploring themes of
Land, resistance, memory and collective identity.
Emerging on Welsh label BWGiBWGAN in 2025 with debut single Chwyldro
MWSOG quickly attracted attention from BBC Radio 6 Music. Their follow-up Llef Hir
received widespread airplay, while Gododdin won the station's Roundtable.
Further international support came from KEXP.
Their growing live reputation has seen them headline the main stage at
Germany's Rudolstadt Festival and deliver an acclaimed performance at Green Man
Festival in 2026. BBC Introducing's Adam Walton described their set as among
the finest he'd witnessed at Green Man.
Rooted in Welsh tradition but boldly contemporary, MWSOG create immersive
Performances where ancient melodies meet psychedelic experimentation and
Communal energy.
An unapologetic celebration of folk music as a living
breathing conduit for anger, joy and a bit of party chaos, the Evie Waddell
Band brings Gaelic and Scots song into bold new territories - finding wit, bite
and mischief in the songs and stories within it! Their music is a curious, energetic collision of traditional folk material
Rap, puirt-a-beul, pop-punk, cabaret and movement, and the common drama between
these seemingly disparate worlds. The Evie Waddell Band formed at Celtic Connections in 2026.
