Diary of a Schizophrenic
Diary of a Schizophrenic brings together, for the first time, eight years of self-portraits by artist Jamie King. At first glance the paintings appear almost identical. The same subject. The same framing. The same angle. But as you look closer, the differences begin to emerge.
Each painting reflects the internal space King was experiencing at the time it was made, becoming a visual diary of living with schizophrenia. Individually they capture moments in time. Together they reveal subtle shifts in mood, perception and identity, creating an extraordinary body of work built through repetition and reflection.
Jamie first discovered painting while attending the art group at Bangour Village Hospital. Since then he has exhibited throughout Scotland, developing a practice spanning painting and sculpture. Diary of a Schizophrenic invites visitors to slow down, look closely and discover how the smallest changes can tell the biggest stories.
