In The Tradition

In the Tradition brings together a powerful line up of artists for Celtic Connections 2026, each breathing new life into traditional music.

Fell Line are an award-winning Glasgow-based folk trio featuring Chloë Bryce, Megan MacDonald, and Calum McIlroy. Hailing from Lairg, Tain, and Aberdeenshire respectively, they blend fiddle, accordion, guitar, and their voices to present an array of dynamic tunes and delicate songs.

Glasgow-based harp and fiddle duo Rebecca Hill and Charlie Stewart create expressive, exploratory music that weaves together traditional melodies, hypnotic themes, and improvisation. Shortlisted in the 'Composer of the Year' category at the 2023 MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards following their debut album Thawcrook, they look forward to a busy 2026 with the release of their upcoming record, Glas.

Sarah Hanniffy on viola and Fionnlagh Mac A’Phiocair on Scottish smallpipes explore the Gaelic traditions of Ireland and Scotland in a contemporary light. Known for their ‘hauntingly beautiful’ sound, the duo create innovative soundscapes that can transport and fulfil audiences.

Heather Cartwright is a Glasgow based folk guitarist and singer from Cumbria. Her virtuosic fingerstyle and flat-picked guitar playing provides a vibrant backdrop to her well-crafted self-penned songs and interpretations of traditional material. Her budding career has lead to her supporting Kris Drever in his Autumn tour (2024) and performing at the likes of the prestigious Ullapool guitar festival.

Iain Cormack is a young Gaelic singer from Portree on the Isle of Skye. He began singing at a young age, and he won the An Comunn Gàidhealach Gold Medal at the Royal National Mòd in 2023. Iain is also a member of two Gaelic choirs: Ceòlraidh Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu and Portree Gaelic Choir, where he was recently appointed conductor.

Together, these artists paint a vivid musical tapestry, showcasing the best of Scotland’s traditional music talent, with musical director Anna Massie.
