Local Artist Highlight – Kim Stephens
Kim Stephens is an artist based in ibrox, Glasgow. She studied contemporary textiles at Norwich university of arts. Currently her practice focuses more on painting and printmaking. Her work explores play between texture and colour; something that she takes from her floristry and textile background.
The works displayed were made in collaboration with her 4-year-old son ravine. Her and ravine are frequent craft club attendees in ibrox library. In this series, the offcuts collected from the weekly craft club sessions are used as stencils, creating textured and graphic compositions. The selected papers are arranged in layers on a gelli plate. This printing method produces spontaneous and quick monotypes (a unique print that can only be printed once). The immediacy of this method allows Kim to capture the moments of chaos that happen in the process of working with a child.
