Maggie MacInnes: The Kalokerinos Tapes

Internationally acclaimed singer, musician, and composer Maggie MacInnes performs original arrangements of songs from a previously unreleased private archive recorded by her mother, the great traditional singer from Barra, Flora MacNeil.

The archive was recorded in the 50s and 60s by Australian folklorist Dr James Kalokerinos, and includes rare gems alongside traditional songs that Flora helped make popular.

With the assistance of Creative Scotland, Maggie has developed this show as a tribute to Flora and those other tradition bearers who passed on songs to her as she grew up.

Maggie is accompanied by several of Scotland’s finest musicians, and two very special guests: Margaret Stewart, one of Scotland’s most distinguished singers, and Claire Frances MacNeil, who recently became the first person ever to graduate from RCS with a Master’s Degree in Gaelic Song.
