New Voices: Roo Geddes
Hailing from Partick in the west of Glasgow, Roo Geddes was raised in a deeply musical family and plays on his great-great-grandfather’s violin. This year has seen a flurry of releases, including albums with his duos Darach and Roo & Neil as well as his debut solo album Close.
Written over three months spent teaching and studying in India, Roo’s New Voices Commission brings together musicians from around the world who have been close companions in the development of his music. His duo partners Neil Sutcliffe and Hugo Franco (Galicia) will share the stage together for the first time, alongside Timmy Allan (BBC Scotland Young Jazz Musician) a long-time collaborator from their ten years together in Awkward Family Portraits. From the USA, the incredible Natalie Haas and Caroline Dressler add soaring cello and fiddle to complete the ensemble.
This new music sits comfortably between his identities as a fiddler and violinist and incorporates subtle flavours from his recent escapades further afield in Jazz and Hindustani music.
