Peking Opera in Shadow
Discover the world of Peking Opera through puppetry in this family-friendly performance and workshop.
The event begins with a 30-minute puppet performance bringing a story from Peking Opera to life through shadow puppetry and Peking Opera singing. Characters, drama and music come together to introduce children and families to the storytelling world of Peking Opera through a lively visual performance.
After the show, children and their families can take part in a hands-on puppet-making workshop. Inspired by the performance, participants will create a puppet of their own, a small keepsake shaped by family time and personal memory, and continuing the storytelling in their own way.
The workshop is designed for children and families, and all children must be accompanied by a parent, carer or responsible adult throughout. Audiences interested in Peking Opera in Shadow may wish to also attend the Peking Opera in Glasgow event.
This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of humanities, taking place 5-14 November 2026. Being Human is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
