São Paulo: Tràigh Mhòr and Garúa Tango Club

Featuring Scotland's Maggie MacInnes (Gaelic vocals) and Sarah Markey (flute & Clarsach) along with these acclaimed musicians from São Paulo:

Ivan Vilela (Guitar) - Ivan holds a professorship in Ethnomusicology, a doctorate in Social Psychology, and a master's and bachelor's degree in Musical Composition. He is a professor at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo, where he teaches History of Brazilian Popular Music, Musical Perception, Ethnomusicology, and Brazilian Viola.

Ari Colares (percussion) - Specializing in Brazilian rhythms, Ari is one of the most respected percussionists in Brazil. He has released several albums and has also accompanied artists such as Naná Vasconcelos, Arnaldo Antunes, Toninho Ferragutti, Egberto Gismonti, Yamandu Costa, Vanessa da Mata, and many others.

Lulinha Alencar (accordion) had his first contact with music at home, playing the percussion instruments triangle and zabumba with his father, the accordionist Zé de Cezário. Self-taught, in late 1999 he settled in São Paulo where he would showcase his work as a pianist without imagining that he would also gain opportunity and space as an accordionist. Moving between diverse but related areas, his sound revisits his backlands origins in northeast Brazil and is complemented by urbanity in arrangements based on the dialogue between modernity and traditions, always under the influence of masters.

Suzana Salles is a singer and songwriter. She was part of the Paulista Vanguard, having sung with Arrigo Barnabé and Itamar Assumpção. She has recorded five albums and participated as a guest on several projects, including Tom Zé and Galvão Frade. Alongside Ivan Vilela and Lenine Santos, she has two albums dedicated to traditional Brazilian folk music. She conceived and curated the Brazilian Song Week in the city of São Luiz do Paraitinga, winning the Governor of the State Award for this work.

Garúa Tango Club is a Glasgow-based tango ensemble, set up by classical musicians who craved more freedom and wanted to share the joy that tango music and dance can bring into the community. Garua Tango has been working to root a culture of tango in Scotland by collaborating with Scottish composers and dancers, while revisiting old milongas, Piazzolla's music and contemporary tango music. Led by Argentine cellist Santiago Gil Duarte, they play with conviction you would hear in Buenos Aires, while holding space for queer and non-traditional artists. Having links with Paisley Tango and Glasgow Tango Club, GTC has performed at dancing events (milongas), as well as concerts in The Rum Shack, Websters Theatre and a sell-out multidisciplinary performance in Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
