Sonica: Music for 18 Musicians - Paraorchestra with Charles Hazlewood
Part of Sonica Glasgow 2026
Scottish Premiere
Charles Hazlewood conducts Paraorchestra, the UK’s first integrated orchestra of disabled and non-disabled musicians. To mark the 90th birthday of groundbreaking composer Steve Reich, they will play the glimmering minimalist soundscape that made him a household name: Music for 18 Musicians (1976).
Uniquely, Paraorchestra plays in a circle, transforming the orchestra into a sonic installation that audiences are free to explore - moving among pulsing marimbas, pianos and vocals - or to remain still and be suffused in Reich’s sublimely shifting music.
