Sulaf and Support
Sulaf invites audiences into a powerful musical journey where Sudanese tradition, personal history and contemporary sound converge in extraordinary ways. Performing music from her debut album ABA, she combines expressive vocals and the rich tones of the oud with atmospheric electronics and expansive arrangements, creating a sound that is at once rooted in heritage and strikingly modern.
Drawing on the Sufi poetry of her great-grandfather, whose name inspires the album, Sulaf’s songs explore themes of loss, longing, identity and resilience. Shaped during an unexpected period of exile in Paris after war broke out in Sudan, these compositions carry a profound emotional depth, reflecting both personal experience and a wider story of displacement and connection. Her voice moves effortlessly between intimate reflection and soaring intensity, drawing listeners into every moment.
This special Celtic Connections performance offers a rare opportunity to experience the live launch of ABA.
