Three Winter Songs

The Premiere of Three Winter Songs, a work for choir and harp by acclaimed Scottish harpist/composer Ailie Robertson, will take place in Glasgow.

Commissioned by Cathures Chamber Choir, the piece weaves together texts by three celebrated North American female poets: L. M. Montgomery (1874 – 1942), Emily Pauline Johnson (1861 –1913), and Sara Teasdale (1884 – 1943). Drawing on Montgomery’s “Winter Dawn”, Johnson’s “Lady Icicle”, and Teasdale’s “Winter Dusk”, Three Winter Songs explores the shifting emotional and physical landscapes of winter. A lyrical meditation that traces the season’s contrasts — stillness and renewal, fragility and strength, darkness and illumination – it offers a vivid female perspective on nature’s cycles, finding beauty and vitality in winter’s quiet moments.

Also featured in the concert will be Britten's Ceremony of Carols.

The concert will be BSL-interpreted
