1.5 Months: Presents: Merrowfolk + Jude-Norton Smith + Lainey Dempsey

In 2027, 1.5 Months will be celebrating 10 years of promoting independent, DIY, artist led gigs in Glasgow - events where artists can experiment and perform in a supportive, collaborative, non-hierarchical space that aims to be a place unbound from the orthodoxies of market based culture. This year 1.5 Months will be programmed every one and a half months. To celebrate and open the year 1.5 Months are excited to bring three artists to Celtic Connections that perfectly represent a riposte to that orthodoxy.

Merrowfolk

Merrowfolk are an indie folk rock collective from the Glasgow DIY and Scottish festival scene. Initially gathered around Irish singer-songwriter Mima Merrow’s solo project, their palpable chemistry, wide-ranging musical influences and intoxicating sound has seen them grow into one of Glasgow’s most exciting new bands.

Lainey dempsey

Influenced by Scotland and Ireland’s traditional song bearers, Lainey writes and sings about rebels, underdogs, the supernatural and the broken hearted.

She is widely recognised for her captivating unaccompanied singing style, her voice creating an intimacy and connection that invites audiences to travel with her into the stories of the songs she sings.

Her debut album ‘Letle Telt’ was released in 2023 and was the featured album of the week on BBC Radio Scotland.

Jude Norton-Smith

Through original compositions and performance of traditional songs, Jude reinvents familiar folk storytelling with a keen eye for wit and subversion. Their live show is beloved for its charm, candour, and ever-changing cabal of collaborators, and they are delighted to be celebrating 1.5 months for this special show.
