'In the Bardo Time is Frozen Like Glass' by Garth Ivan

Garth Ivan's new exhibition draws on the visual languages of fashion photography, mid-century painting, and figurative classicism to create a fever dream told through abstraction, still life, and portraiture. Through meticulous in-camera effects, and processes of obscuration, fragmentation, and shifts in scale, once familiar subjects occupy an uneasy space in the porous boundary between the natural and the virtual, the material and the void. Garth Ivan is a contemporary artist and curator.
Originally from New York, and now based in Inverclyde, Scotland, his images have been featured in Politico, Variety, and Deadline, and he has been shortlisted and exhibited at the Scottish Portrait Awards. His photographic work evokes the painterly and the mysterious; of secrets revealed without context and spaces recently abandoned without explanation.
