Stuart Low
These works explore reflection through two very different visual worlds. One series is made up of tightly packed geometric shapes, angular lines and repeated forms. There is a sense of order and structure, but also of movement, as the shapes overlap and compete for space.
The second series turns to flowers and plants. The forms are softer and more organic, with flowing lines, layered petals and leaves. The flower compositions also have a geometric quality, with repeated shapes and carefully arranged forms connecting them to the more structured drawings. They work together, giving the exhibition a sense of growth and energy.
An interesting contrast is seen between the geometric and the natural, between control and spontaneity. Yet both series share a strong sense of repetition, layering and pattern. They encourage us to look closely and notice how individual forms come together to create something larger.
In the context of the festival's theme of Reflection, the works offer a chance to think about how we see and make sense of the world around us; finding order, movement and connection within the things we encounter.
